Ministry Opportunities
With all of the activities at Farmington Lutheran, we have many areas where your gifts and talents are needed. Please look through these opportunities complete the Ministry Opportunites form to get more information. If you have gifts you would like to share, but do not see a description here, please talk to Maria.
Loving with Christ:
Nursery Attendant: Attend to children (age 0-5) in the nursery during the Sunday education hour, worship, Wednesday school time, or special events (Bible Study, special worship services). Two attendants will be assigned for each Sunday.
Faith Adventures Shepherd: The shepherd is the relational leader for Faith Adventures youth (ages 6-10). Shepherds are responsible for getting to know the youth in their group, handling discipline issues, assisting the station leader, and writing postcards to youth who are not in class. Shepherds may team together to share responsibilities, but the general commitment is one hour each week during Faith Adventures class times. Shepherd training will be held before classes begin in the fall.
Wee Praise Assistant: loving musical presence for our preschool-kindergarten choir. Responsibility includes getting to know the children, helping the Wee Praise Director with music activities, and providing guidance or discipline as necessary. Time commitment is one hour/week during Wee Praise rehearsal time. This position may be shared.
Serving with Christ:
Wednesday Evening Meals: help set up, assist as cashier, serving food, or clean up. Time commitment is 1 hour per week; people are generally scheduled to serve once per month.
Christmas Program: Assist directors with various aspects of the Christmas program including rehearsal assistant, props, youth supervision, etc. Time commitment will include monthly meetings in September and October, then as needed for rehearsals, performance and other activities in November and December. The Christmas program will be held December 17, 2007.
Art Project Preparation: willing hands to assist with art project or decoration preparation as needed.
Phone Calling: callers needed to help with communications regarding programming or schedule people who have indicated an interest in a ministry area as needed.
Supply Shopping: people who are willing to pick up items for our various programs and/or Wednesday meals. Purchased items can be donated or bills can be submitted for reimbursement.
Teaching with Christ
Faith Beginnings Teacher: teach one of our Sunday or Wednesday preschool or kindergarten classes. Teachers are encouraged to teach in pairs; this is a yearlong commitment. Training will be held before classes begin in the fall.
Faith Adventures Station Leader: The station leader is responsible for teaching one lesson for several weeks to different groups of youth (ages 6-10). Areas of skill may include drama, cooking, games, music, art, puppetry, and story telling - among others. A single theme commitment is one hour of class time for 4-6 weeks and the necessary pre-class preparation time. Station leaders are encouraged to serve for multiple themes! Training is provided prior to each theme.
Faith Connections Guide: Guides serve as teachers and mentors for our 5th & 6th grade youth. Training will be held before classes begin in the fall.
Keeping the Faith:
Resource Center Attendant: keep the resource center organized and help teachers find their supplies, help with miscellaneous office tasks. Time commitment is one hour/week during Sunday/Wednesday school times, but there is flexibility and the ability to share this position and skip weeks as needed.
SCRIP / Info Booth Attendant: Help fundraise for future Children’s Ministry programs! Duties include sitting at the church info booth and selling or taking orders for SCRIP gift cards (a portion of which is returned to Farmington Lutheran Church Children’s Ministries Programs). Time commitment would include being at the info booth before and after services on either a Saturday evening or Sunday morning. This position can be shared.
Leading with Christ– Special Events:
All of these positions work closely with the Director of Children's Ministries and/or ministry personnel from the other sections.
Christmas Program Director: Responsible for selecting the Christmas program, directing the production and organizing other ministry personnel. Heaviest commitment during the months of November and December.
Family Advent Fair Coordinator: With the assistance of the Director of Children's Ministries, plan and organize a family Advent Fair that includes games, crafts, and other family projects. The Advent Fair is held on the first Sunday in Advent.
VBS Team (2008): Vision, select curriculum, organize and implement ministry personnel to present VBS 2008, with heaviest duties during summer 2008. Meetings for this group will begin in January 2008.
Children’s Ministries Appreciation Event: Be a part of a team to plan, organize and implement ministry personnel for the 2008 Children’s Ministries Appreciation.
Family Ministry Event Coordinator: Be a part of a team to plan, organize and implement ministry personnel for family ministry events such as the family hayride, the winter carnival, or other family days.
Leading with Christ – Year-long Leadership:
All of these positions work closely with the Director of Children's Ministries and/or ministry personnel from the other sections.
Wednesday Meal Chef(s): Plan and cook meals for 30-50 people on Wednesday school evenings. A team can do this.
Children’s Ministries Committee: Be a part of the main visioning and action team for Farmington Lutheran.
Nursery Committee: Be a part of a team that takes care of our church nursery. Duties include attending meetings (1 hour/month), arranging nursery cleaning schedules, and assisting in nursery duties when needed.
Nursery Schedule Coordinator: Arrange a serving schedule for those who have indicated an interest in nursery attendants, provide communication between the church office and nursery attendants. Time commitment is 1-3 hours per month, including participation on the nursery committee.
KiC Coordinator: Plan, arrange and organize monthly service and/or social events for 5th and 6th grade youth.
Faith Adventures Theme Team: This team will work closely with the Director of Children's Ministries to plan the stations, recruit station leaders and oversee station needs for Faith Adventures. Time commitment includes three longer planing meetings during the summer, and then shorter meetings during the school year as needed to facilitate theme changes.
